Hudson Valley Hospital Center Nurse Named NY Times Tribute to Nurses Winner
Cortlandt Manor, NY …Hudson Valley Hospital Center (HVHC) is pleased to announce Maryann Maffei, RN, MSOL was recently named a 2009 New York Times Tribute to Nurses award winners. Mafffei is the Clinical Nurse Manager of the Hospital’s no-wait Emergency Department. She was honored for her leadership skills. Under Maffei’s guidance, HVHC transformed its emergency department (ED) into a “no-wait” ED four years ago. She also led the way in the Hospital’s journey to earn Stroke designation and played a prominent role in helping the Hospital attain Magnet designation. HVHC is the only Hospital between Albany and New York City to achieve Magnet status, the gold standard for nursing excellence.
“Maryann has made a significant impact on the staff, patients and most assuredly, the community,” stated Hudson Valley Hospital Center President, John Federspiel.
“The evolution of the no wait ED would not have been possible without her leadership, perseverance and persistence.”
Maffei lives in Mahopac. She is the second Hudson Valley Hospital Center nurse leader to win the New York Times Tribute to Nurses award in the last 3 years. Vice President of Patient Services, Kathy Webster also won for leadership in 2007. Hudson Valley Hospital Center was the only Hospital in Westchester or Putnam Counties with a nurse recognized by the NY Times Tribute to Nurses Award.
