Hudson Valley Hospital Center Power, Phone Service Restored

transformer repairs on 202

(Cortlandt Manor, NY) - September 1, 2011 - Power, phone and Internet service has been restored to Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Cortlandt Manor after an electrical line fire on Route 202 temporarily interrupted service to the hospital earlier today.

"We are 99 percent back in service as of 5 p.m. today,'' said Hudson Valley Hospital Center President John C. Federspiel. "We are in the process of installing a new back up generator to replace the one which was damaged by the power surge. We anticipate everything should be back to normal by 8 p.m.''

The fire on a utility pole across the street from the hospital caused a power surge which damaged one backup generator serving a section of the hospital. As a result, nine patients in that section had to be moved to other rooms. Those patients are expected to be returned to their rooms this evening after the new backup generator is in place.

"Although the entire hospital now has regular power, as an added precaution we want to make sure that the back up generator is in place before patients are moved back to that section of the hospital,'' said Federspiel.
