Why Work Here
You’ll feel right at home at Hudson Valley Hospital Center
Nursing is a rewarding profession and nowhere is that more evident than at Hudson Valley Hospital Center. Our Magnet accredited nursing program encourages our nurses to be leaders. Hudson Valley Hospital Center offers competitive salaries and benefits, but more importantly, it offers the opportunity to become part of the one of the most professional nursing teams in the region. Between 65 percent and 80 percent of our nurses (depending on which units they work on) have advanced degrees, completing their BSN or higher. The Hospital encourages continuing education with a generous tuition reimbursement program.
All this adds up to one of the highest nursing retention rates in the state. HVHC’s nursing turnover rate in only 3 percent, compared to 7 percent average statewide. No wonder our RN employee satisfaction ratings in 2010 were at 88 percent or the 12 percent nationally.
Our nurses thrive here. One example is Bindu Cherian, RN, who in May of 2011 was named Hudson Valley Magazine’s Nurse of the Year. More than 65 nurses were nominated for this prestigious honor, including nine other nurses from Hudson Valley Hospital Center. Bindu attributes her success to teamwork at the Hospital.
Hudson Valley Hospital Center was listed as one of the best places to work in Westchester County by Westchester Magazine, a prestigious publication in our area. Our Hospital also was one of the six recipients of the 2006 Success Stories Award by Press Ganey. We are the largest employer in the area with more than 1,100 employees. Our culture of open communication with employees and a management team that listens and responds to staff needs has resulted in a 97th percentile ranking in employee satisfaction. And we are happy to report that satisfied patients abound at HVHC with scores in the 90th percentile across the board.
Here’s some other reasons why HVHC is a great place to work.
Hudson Valley Hospital Center, located in Cortlandt Manor, next to the City of Peekskill is just a one hour ride to New York City. Major highways and public transportation make it easy to get to NYC and its art galleries, theatres on Broadway and great shopping. There is also easy access to major international and domestic airports.
Westchester County is one of the most attractive places to live and work. A fine transportation network, a superior quality of life, top notch education and health care systems, and a short drive to Manhattan make it highly desirable. Quaint villages and thriving urban centers offer cultural activities, museums, restaurants and historic sites. The majestic Hudson River offers many recreational opportunities.
You will find higher education choices in many colleges in Westchester as well as in major universities in New York City. We offer free housing to nurses arriving from abroad when they first join Hudson Valley Hospital Center. When the time comes to move on your own, we help you select a realtor to secure housing of your choice.

Who We Are
A 128- bed acute care Hospital, Hudson Valley Hospital Center is strategically located one hour north of New York City on the shore of the Hudson River. The Hospital was founded in 1889 and in the last decade doubled its size to keep pace with a population boom in the area. In 2010, the Hospital completed a $100 million renovation including a new lobby, expanded emergency room, new all-private room patient tower. In the fall of 2011, the Hospital will open a Cancer Center and Medical Office Building.
Emergency Department
Our Emergency Department received New York State designation as a Stroke Center in 2005. A leader in patient throughput, the emergency room team revolutionized the patient experience by eliminating the waiting room and was the first to introduce a “NO-WAIT ER” in the area. High patient satisfaction scores attest to the success of this bold re-engineering effort.
Maternity Services & NICU
The Women’s Pavilion houses a 5-star maternity suite with luxury amenities, whirlpool tubs in each labor/delivery room and an adjacent operating room for C-sections. The nursery is credentialed as a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Neonatology coverage is provided around the clock.
The OR of the Future
The recent addition of two new large operating rooms has expanded the surgery schedule for physicians and provided efficiencies brought by new design and space for the latest equipment. Our new Minimally Invasive Surgery Center offers patients less invasive procedures such as single incision hernia and gallbladder, sinuplastly and reflux surgeries. The new OR balances aesthetics for a healing environment with the demands of new clinical practices.
Critical Care
Four new patient rooms were added to our ultra-modern Progressive Care Unit adjacent to the Intensive Care Unit. Designed with the most advanced equipment, the centrally located nursing hubs provide quick access to each patient room and provide a bright, cheerful environment to render critical care.
A Successful Career in A “Magnet” Hospital
Hudson Valley Hospital Center 1st in Region to Receive MAGNET™ Status
Hudson Valley Hospital Center is the first hospital in a seven-county region to attain the highly coveted Magnet™ designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Magnet™ designation is granted only to hospitals that undergo a rigorous, voluntary evaluation that must have the support of executive leadership. Magnet™ designation is the highest national recognition for nursing. “The Magnet™ journey is a commitment to excellence. It was the perseverance, professionalism and dedication of our nurses, who make a difference in the lives of our patients every day, that enabled this recognition,” states Kathy Webster, RN, MSN, CNAA, vice president of patient services. Less than 7 percent of hospitals nationwide have earned this distinction in the 17 years since the ANCC developed the Magnet™ Recognition Program®. Magnet™ hospitals such as Hudson Valley Hospital Center promote professional growth and academic advancement, providing opportunities for nursing research and cutting edge “evidence-based practice” innovations to be disseminated to other hospitals.
