Hudson Valley Hospital Outpatient Nutrition Program Receives Medicare Approval
Diabetic and Chronic Kidney patients may now be eligible for Medicare Part B reimbursements for nutrition counseling at Hudson Valley Hospital Center
Cortlandt Manor, NY - (March 1, 2011) – Patients with Diabetes and Chronic Kidney Disease may be eligible to receive nutrition counseling at Hudson Valley Hospital Center now that the Hospital’s Outpatient Nutrition Department has been given the green light by Medicare.
The government health insurance program for those over 65 now recognizes Hudson Valley Hospital Center’s outpatient nutrition department as a medical provider eligible under Medicare.
"This is great news for many patients with chronic diabetes and kidney disease because, if they are eligible, they can receive nutrition counseling and improve their health with no out of pocket costs," said Jennifer Fell, RD, CDN, Director of Food and Nutrition.
Nutrition counseling can provide a critical role in helping to improve patients' health and thus reduce future medical costs.
Fell said that the Outpatient Nutrition Department at Hudson Valley Hospital can help anyone develop smarter eating habits.
"At Hudson Valley Hospital Center we work with patients who have chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol to teach them how to eat smarter," she said. "hat means being conscious of what you eat and making healthier choices. This is something that everyone – even those without chronic conditions – can, and should do."
Hudson Valley Hospital Center’s Outpatient Nutrition Program offers:
- Individualized nutrition counseling
- Nutrition education for the management of chronic disease
- Analysis of current diet and food intake
- Learn to read food labels and understand portion sizes
- Guidelines for eating out
- Medical nutrition therapy for Medicare Part B beneficiaries with diabetes or non-dialysis renal disease.
