Milk and Cookies for Santa’s Helpers at Hudson Valley Hospital Center

Cortlandt Manor, NY - (November 30, 2011) – Santa’s not the only one who likes milk and cookies. His helpers like them too.
On Wednesday, December 14 from 11:30 – 2 p.m. Hudson Valley Hospital Center staff will bake chocolate chip and sugar cookies in special ovens right in the main lobby and serve them with ice cold milk. It’s all for a good cause: to raise funds for Santa’s Helpers, an HVHC program that buys holiday gifts for needy children. A holiday sing-a-long will be held from 12-12:30 and all are welcome.
The elves at Hudson Valley Hospital Center started this year’s fundraising on July 29 and are continuing to raise funds right down to the wire. The Hospital will hold a wrapping party on December 21 to wrap all the gifts purchased by its network of dedicated shopping volunteers, and families and social service agencies will pick them up that day.
“Helping to provide these children with a little happiness makes us all feel special,’’ said Jennifer Fell, RD, CDN, Director of Food and Nutrition, which along with the Hospital’s Auxiliary and Marketing Department is helping to organize the milk and cookies event.
For the past 15 years, hospital employees, donors and community members have come together to support the “Santa’s Helpers” program, which provides gifts for dozens of less fortunate children. Last year, the Hospital raised nearly $15,000 and spent $125 each on 107 children, surpassing its goal.
Local social service agencies provide the Hospital with the first name, age, size and wish list of the children. A committee of shoppers works to try to fulfill each child’s wishes.
If you would like to make a monetary donation to support the program, please send a check payable to: HVHC and note in the memo section –“Santa’s Helpers” to Hudson Valley Hospital Center, 1980 Crompond Road, Cortlandt Manor, NY 10567. Every dollar collected goes directly to purchasing gifts. For more information on how you can help contact, Sue Lepore at (914) 734-3287.
