Dr. Oz Show to Feature Minimally Invasive Sinus Surgery Offered at Hudson Valley Hospital Center
Cortlandt Manor, NY - (December 12, 2011) – A minimally invasive technology for treating chronic sinus inflammation now performed at Hudson Valley Hospital Center will be featured on an upcoming edition of the Dr. Oz show.
The episode, airing Friday, December 16th on Fox 5 at 4 pm, will feature an ear, nose and throat specialist, who will discuss the minimally invasive procedure that is used to treat patients with chronic sinus blockage.
The Balloon SinuplastyTM system by AcclarentTM uses a small catheter and balloon to quickly open and expand blocked sinuses. Last year, Hudson Valley Hospital Center was the first Hospital in New York State to be recognized by the company as a Sinus Center of Excellence.
More than 37 million Americans suffer with the headaches, congestion, fatigue and other symptoms of sinusitis each year. Traditionally patients are treated with medical therapies such as antibiotics and topical nasal steroids, or conventional sinus surgery that requires bone and tissue removal to open blocked passageways. Now there is a less invasive option known as balloon sinuplasty.
“Many people suffer for years with chronic sinus infections and get only temporary relief using topical nasal steroids and antibiotics,’’ said Dr. Michael Bergstein, who performs the sinuplasty procedure at HVHC. “There are less invasive surgical options that are very successful, but many people are not aware of them. Patients need to educate themselves on the all the options.’’
