It’s Beard Season - HVHC Kicks off February with “Winning Winter Whiskers” Fundraiser
Cortlandt Manor, NY - (January 23, 2012) – February kicks off beard season for Hudson Valley Hospital Center with the first Winning Winter Whiskers fundraising campaign. The challenge to men: Grow your beard out during the month of February and raise money for the Cheryl R. Lindenbaum Comprehensive Cancer Center. Participant information packets can be downloaded at www.hvhc.org, and applications must be submitted by February 1st.
“Community support is integral in the success of our campaign to raise funds and awareness for the Cancer Center, and this is a way for all of us to have some fun while supporting an important cause,” said HVHC President, John Federspiel, who was the first to sign up for the challenge. “It’s estimated that within our primary service area, over 650 people will be diagnosed with cancer each year. Community events like these will ensure that we can continue to bring the best services to those who need it most.”
It’s simple to get started. Submit an application along with a $50 entrance donation by February 1st and snap a photo of your clean shaven face to be used as a before photo. Then start seeking sponsors. Photos of all participants will be posted on the HVHC page along with competition updates throughout the month. A Beard Bash is in the works for February 27th at The Quiet Man Public House, which will be open to the public, and awards will be given for Most Money Raised, Wildest Beard, Longest Beard, and Most Creative Fundraising Tactics.
On average, a cancer patient makes more than 100 individual trips to obtain care during their first year of diagnosis and treatment. Cancer patients in the HVHC Center’s service area have had to drive at least 30 minutes or more to access care. The Cheryl R. Lindenbaum Comprehensive Cancer Center offers care close to home, reducing stress on patients and their families.
The Cancer Center houses The Ashikari Breast Center and Institute for Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery, offering world-renowned physicians in breast surgery and reconstruction and leading technology in women’s imaging. Additional services include radiation and infusion therapy. The Center is the only facility in the region to offer tomotherapy, a state-of-the-art radiation therapy that precisely pinpoints cancerous cells while minimizing damage to healthy tissue. The center’s design, with adjoining conference and office space, encourages communication and clinical consultations between physicians.
