Healthy Cooking Classes in April

Cortlandt Manor, NY - (April1, 2014) – Making some modest changes in your diet can improve your health. Hudson Valley Hospital Center’s new Peter X. Kelly Teaching Kitchen offers healthy cooking classes throughout the year and is offering some special classes in April.

Part of the Hospital’s Harvest for Health program, The Peter X. Kelly Teaching Kitchen offers cooking classes to people of all ages for a nominal fee of $15 per class. Here’s what’s on tap for April:

Cooking the DASH Diet
Monday, April 14th. 3-4:30 PM.
Led by HVHC Registered Dietitian Stefanie Green, this informative and fun class will focus on the DASH diet. The DASH diet is based on research into the best dietary interventions to lower blood pressure and maintain heart health. Learn about delicious meals that can help you steer clear of high sodium processed foods. Convenience without the compromise! ($15).

Healthy Alternatives to Fast Food
Tuesday, April 22nd. 4-5:30 PM.

Whether you have a weakness for French fries, potatoes chips, or fatty burgers, there’s an opportunity to improve your health without abandoning the comfort food. In this class, you’ll try out different ways to cook up familiar foods and learn just why the alternatives are better for you. ($15).


Homemade Pizza
Saturday, April 26. 2-3:30 PM.

There are an infinite number of ways to top your pizza, and many of them will elevate the pie to gourmet status while also improving its nutritional profile. From your very own homemade crust to great new ideas for making a perfectly balanced pizza, this weekend class will equip you with the tools to skip delivery and wow your friends and family. As a bonus, making your own pizza is great for getting kids involved in the kitchen! ($15).
