HVHC'S Winter Whiskers Raises More Than $15K

Cortlandt Manor, NY - (April 2, 2013) – Thirty men ditched their razors for the month of March to raise funds and awareness for the Cheryl R. Lindenbaum Comprehensive Cancer Center at Hudson Valley Hospital. The “Winning Winter Whiskers” campaign raised more than $15,000 for the center and concluded with a grand finale celebration at the Peekskill Brewery on April 1st.   The celebration was sponsored by the Brewery, Drive Action Digital and Beale Street Barber Shop.

Beard growers, supporters, hospital employees and members of the community attended the 2nd Annual Beard Bash where awards were presented for most money raised, wildest beard, longest beard, and most creative fundraising tactics. William Dauster, VP of Marketing & Development led the pack bringing in $3,765 for the Center.

Attendees enjoyed “Wet Your Whiskers” signature cocktail, along with a selection of PB beers and hors d’oevres from the newly opened restaurant. Top fundraisers were treated to an old-fashioned straight-edge razor shave compliments of Beale Street Barber Shop.

It’s not too late to contribute to the cause. Donations can be made online by visiting www.hvhc.organd clicking on the beard icon. On average, a cancer patient makes more than 100 individual trips to obtain care during their first year of diagnosis and treatment. Cancer patients in the HVHC Center’s service area have had to drive at least 30 minutes or more to access care. The Cheryl R. Lindenbaum Comprehensive Cancer Center offers care close to home, reducing stress on patients and their families.

The Cancer Center houses The Ashikari Breast Center and Institute for Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery, offering world-renowned physicians in breast surgery and reconstruction and leading technology in women’s imaging.  Additional services include radiation and infusion therapy. The Center is the only facility in the region to offer HD tomotherapy, a state-of-the-art radiation therapy that precisely pinpoints cancerous cells while minimizing damage to healthy tissue. The Center’s design, with adjoining conference and office space, encourages communication and clinical consultations between physicians.
