ART FOR HEALTH is dedicated to the concept that art has restorative properties that help in the healing process. Fine artwork adds a sense of comfort and beauty to an atmosphere that is often considered sterile. It has a calming effect on patients and their families and helps to alleviate the anxiety of being in a hospital.

To that end, Hudson Valley Hospital Center has dedicated itself to bringing this comfort to its patients through its Art for Health program. Through generous donations and work of its curator, the Hospital has amassed hundreds of pieces of fine artwork carefully arranged in 19 gallery spaces throughout the hospital. The Art for Health program is the recipient of the 2010 Arts Westchester Award and has been featured in numerous publications including The New York Times.

Our Artwork

Only the highest quality original fine art is on display, reflecting the high quality of health care provided at the hospital. Not only do these galleries provide a therapeutic service, but they also offer an educational experience to our viewers while embracing the active, local artistic community at the same time.

While most of the art is selected from local talent, the hospital has also been able to recruit artists with international exhibits.

How to Contribute

Several opportunities exist for donors to participate in the ART FOR HEALTH project. Donations are used tocare for the collections and acquire high quality fine art from established artists.

The Main Lobby hospital gallery, donated by President and CEO John C. Federspiel, focuses on a Hudson River theme. Other gallery spaces offer additional naming opportunities with themes incorporating nature and local history.

Designated gallery spaces are located in the Main Lobby, the second, third, and fourth floors of the in-patient tower, as well as the PACU, PCU, OB, ED, Surgery and Diagnostic Imaging and North Entrance waiting rooms; the main hall original building, lower level Wagner hallway, Wagner Conference area, Wound Care Center, Dempsey House, Pataki Center Center for Sleep Medicine and the new Medical Office Building and Cancer Center.

Financial contributors and donors' names are prominently displayed on a special ART FOR HEALTH plaque. If you would like to learn more about ART FOR HEALTH naming and other gift opportunities, please contact Mr. William Dauster, Executive Director of the Foundation at 914-734-3526.
