Women Flock to “It’s All about Women” at Hudson Valley Hospital Center

Cortlandt Manor, NY – (April 3, 2012) – It was all about women, and men too, at Hudson Valley Hospital Center’s “All about Women” event on March 29.

More than 200 people attended the opening of the Ashikari Breast Center, Institute for Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery, and Women’s Imaging Center, which make up the Women’s Center located in Hudson Valley Hospital Center’s new Medical Office Building.

“Having these new services here all in one convenient location is a major plus for women in our community,’’ said John C. Federspiel, President of Hudson Valley Hospital Center. “We are very fortunate to have some of the finest, most experienced doctors associated with these services such as Drs. Roy Ashikari, Andrew Ashikari, Pond Kelemen, Andrew Salzberg, Michael Koch and Maurice Poplausky.’’

The event was held to mark a new partnership between the three practices that serve women on the first-floor: A new state of the art Women’s Imaging Center with connecting private passage to the offices of the renowned Ashikari breast surgeons, and the New York Group for Plastic Surgery, offering a full-range of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.

The opening ceremony introducing the physicians and their staffs was followed by an evening of fun and information. Guest toured the new facilities, spoke with physicians and their staffs and enjoyed a few luxuries: an open bar, passed hors d’oeuvres, chair and hand massages. Also featured was Author Amy Curran Baker, who spoke about her book, ““Now What? A Patient’s Guide to Recovery After Mastectomy”

“It was an honor to be there for the opening of this wonderful facility, to be able to share my story, and to connect with so many strong women and hear their stories. It was truly an empowering evening,’’ said Curran Baker of Cortlandt.

Katherine Quinn, Executive Director of Support Connection in Yorktown, said the event showed a collaborative effort among cancer care providers in the community.

“It was great to witness the integrative approach to breast cancer care and treatment available at Hudson Valley Hospital Center. The value of support and information being recognized as critical in the healing process, was evidenced in Amy Curran Baker’s presentation about her book, Now What…,’’ said Quinn. “As the only organization in the Hudson Valley that offers personalized support by cancer survivors, Support Connection is pleased to have such a comprehensive cancer center at Hudson Valley Hospital.
