Latest Technology at HVHC...
Lifepak 12s for Pre-Emergency Treatment

It is compact and does not look all that high-tech, but HVHC's latest weapon in the battle to save heart attack victims is the latest technology and can speed help to those who need it.

The Lifepak 12, as it is called, lets paramedics start pre-emergency room treatment of a heart attack victim in the ambulance and transmit vital patient information to the Emergency Room via cell phone and modem. As a result, the ER is ready for the patient faster, thereby decreasing the chance of heart damage.

It's part of a movement toward an expanded scope of emergency medical services that includes advanced diagnostics and, in some cases, treatment in the field. "Tele-medicine" allows physicians to review test data while a patient is enroute to the hospital so life-saving treatment is available within minutes of arrival.

Administering Immediate Care

A cellular telephone connection lets the Lifepak send its findings straight to the emergency room. This allows the physicians to see what's happening. Medications, including clot buster drugs are then ready to be administered as soon as the patient arrives. Emergency room personnel normally need minutes to hook up a heart monitor and administer medication. Lifepak's advance information cuts this time dramatically, saving precious heart muscle. The longer the wait, the greater the portion of heart muscle that could die.
