Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear medicine is the medical specialty that uses very small amounts of radioactive substances, or tracers, to diagnose or treat disease. Sophisticated nuclear medicine testing is available in our Diagnostic Imaging Department on an outpatient and inpatient basis. Nuclear medicine is a safe, painless and cost effective way of gathering information that may otherwise be unavailable or require more expensive and risky diagnostic testing. Nuclear medicine tests are more sensitive and specific for disease detection than most diagnostic tests because they identify abnormalities very early on in the progression of a disease, long before the medical problem would be apparent with other diagnostic tests.
Many different types of nuclear medicine tests are performed each day by our highly qualified staff of specially trained technologists: bone, heart, thyroid, lung and gallbladder scans, to name a few.
If you need to contact the nuclear medicine department for an appointment, call (914) 734-3674.
