Diabetes Support Group

Dr. Paul Taxin of Westchester Dental Wellness Center will present an educational lecture on Oral Systemic Health. Dr. Taxin will discuss that research suggests that the relationship between serious gum disease and diabetes is two-way. Not only are people with diabetes more susceptible to serious gum disease, but serious gum disease may have the potential to affect blood glucose control and contribute to the progression of diabetes.

Open to those living with diabetes, pre-diabetes, caregivers, and family members. All sessions include evidence-based disease management tools and health information presented by clinical experts. General education topics include reducing risks and prevention, checking blood sugar levels, guidelines for proper medication use, and managing medical complications. The importance of healthy lifestyle behaviors, including diet and nutrition, healthy cooking, and increased exercise and physical activity, will be emphasized.
